Women And Pain

Chronic Pain affects more women than men worldwides. Studies shown that hormones and differences in brain structure and function maybe involved. In addition, some chronic pain conditions, including IBS and fibromyalgia, affect women disproportionately. And though their pain tends to be more severe and longer lasting, women are less likely to receive proper treatment. These and other findings were presented at a conference in Glasgow by the International Association for the Study of Pain ( IASP ) .

Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease

It is common for everyone to experiences chest pains, heartburn, abdominal pains and acid reflux at some time. However, in some individuals, the feeling is frequent or severe enough to cause significant problems.

Know as Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease - GERD -, such discomfort may be caused by the reflux of acidic stomach juices.
When the muscular valve at the bottom of oesophagus is relaxed, stomach contents flow up into the oesophagus and cause pain and sometimes corrosion or ulceration.

Cautions

GERD symptoms are an indicator of excessive acid exposure in the oesophagus and it may lead to long-term consequences such as imflammation and narrowing of the food passage. Another condition is Barret's tranformation of the lining of the lower food passage, which increases the risk of cancer in those area.

How To Prevent GERD ?

├ Have a regular mealtimes
├ Avoid overeating or eat close to bedtime
├ Avoid Smoking
├ Maintain a healthy weight
├ Minimise stress
